About the Amon Carter Museum:
Amon Carter, benefactor of this museum, died in 1955. The museum was built to house Mr. Carter's collection of artwork by Fredrick Remington and Charles M. Russell, and the Amon Carter Museum has always been one of the best museums in the country for Western and Southwestern art.

Today, the museum (whose building was designed by famed architect Philip Johnson) houses a diverse collection of American art, ranging from landscapes from the 1820s to early 20th century modernists to contemporary photographers.

The museum features around 30,000 square feet of gallery space and is considered one of the top museums focusing on American art. Its permanent collection includes works by such luminaries as Frederic Church, Georgia O'Keeffe and Alexander Calder. There are more than 30,000 photos in the collection, and visiting exhibits are common.

The Amon Carter Museum is two miles west of downtown Fort Worth in the city's Cultural District (sometimes called the Museum District). The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursdays; and noon-5 p.m. on Sundays. It is closed on Mondays and major holidays. Admission to the permanent collection is free; traveling exhibits may require an admission fee.
