About Buffalo Gap Historic Village:
Buffalo Gap Historic Village, 14 miles south of Abilene via FM 89, is a living history museum with around 20 period buildings, numerous artifacts, and volunteers serving on weekends as re-enactors and interpretors to demonstrate period activities, arts and crafts.

Among the buildings on site are a one-room log cabin built in 1875, the original Taylor County Courthouse and jail, a train depot, a service station from 1926, and a two-room schoolhouse.

The historic map collection and a premier collection of historical medical instruments are popular (and in the case of the medical instruments, scary!), and the large collection of Indian artifacts and frontier firearms is very popular.

Another attraction of note is the Buffalo Gap Chips baseball team, which plays baseball games as they were played in small towns across Texas in the late 1800s. Check the village website for schedule details.

The Buffalo Gap Historic Village is open Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Sundays noon-5 p.m. The village is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas days, and during days of "unreasonable weather."
