About the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute:
Waco is the birthplace of the Dr Pepper soft drink, whose earliest form was concocted by pharmacist Charles Curtis Alderton in 1885. The Dr Pepper Museum tells the story of the drink's creation, its development and its history.

Dr. Alderton is still in Waco, himself telling the story of his creation. OK, it's really just an animatron of Dr. Alderton. There's also a recreation of Alderton's pharmacy, the Old Corner Drug Store. Other exhibits include a restored, early 20th century soda fountain and displays of Dr Pepper bottles and cans throughout the drink's history.

The soda fountain is a working model, by the way, so you can quench your thirst (with a Dr Pepper, natch) while touring the displays. Dr Pepper memorabilia and logo merchandise can also be purchased.

The Free Enterprise Institute is an educational component of the museum focused on the American economic system.

The Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday noon-4 p.m. There is an admission charge.
