About the Mayborn Museum:
The Mayborn Museum, which includes the Jeanes Discovery Center, is on the campus of Baylor University in Waco. The museum is dedicated to the natural science and cultural history of Central Texas, which visitors can explore in the 143,000 square foot building.
The Jeanes Discovery Center includes 16 interactive exhibits, ranging from bubbles to butterflies, toads to transportation.
The area's natural history is explored in walk-in dioramas and "exploration stations." Among them is a huge, recreated mammoth excavation site. There are also indoor and outdoor displays of man-made habitats, from a Comanche tipi (tee-pee, in the old spelling) to a one-room schoolhouse.
The Mayborn Museum is open daily except for New Year's Day, Easter weekend, Thanksgiving day, Christmas eve and Christmas. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for Thursdays when the museum is open until 8 p.m. Also, 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. A modest admission is charged.
