About Moody Gardens:
Galveston's Moody Gardens complex is one of the most popular attractions in the Greater Houston Area. There's a lot to see here: three pyramids fulls of great stuff (each pyramid a different theme - more on that in a minute); two theaters, one an IMAX and the other a "Ridefilm"; the seasonal Palm Beach water park; a paddlewheel boat; there's even a hotel and spa.

Everyone knows what an IMAX theater is, but what's a Ridefilm theater? It's one that puts the spectators right in the action with a 180-degree screen and sound system surrounding the viewers.

About those pyramids: there's the Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid and Discovery Pyramid. And yes, they really are pyramids. The Discovery Pyramid brings the world of science to kids with hands-on exhibits. The aquarium features displays on North Pacific, South Pacific, South Atlantic and Caribbean. There are two viewing levels and a walkway that puts visitors under the ocean.

The Rainforest Pyramid is full of exotic plants and animals, including birds, sloths, a bat cave and other rain forest denizens.

The only drawback to Moody Gardens is that each exhibit requires a separate ticket purchase, and if you visit all of them you'll be shelling out some bucks. Check the website for current prices. Moody Gardens is open daily. Summer hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; off-season hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday.
