About the National Ranching Heritage Center:
Located on the north boundary of the Texas Tech University campus, the National Ranching Heritage Center is a museum and historical park whose mission is to "preserve the history of ranching, pioneer life and the development of the livestock industry in North America."

The center does this over 16 acres, where visitors can roam more than 35 authentic, historic structures related to ranching. Among these buildings are a bunkhouse, windmills, blacksmith shop, barns, a one-room schoolhouse, corrals and pens, and a ranch headquarters. The structures date from the 1780s through the 1930s. All are restored and authentically furnished.

The National Ranching Heritage Center also sponsors special events throughout the year, as well as offering various educational programs. A museum store offers visitors the chance to purchase books and videos on ranching history, as well as other items.

The National Ranching Heritage Center is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 1-5 p.m. The museum is closed most major holidays. There is no admission charge.
