About the Railroad and Heritage Museum:
The Railroad and Heritage Museum is housed in the historic Santa Fe Depot, which opened in 1908 and whose restoration was the centerpiece of the city's downtown revitalization program.
The Railroad and Heritage Museum displays artifacts and hosts exhibits that trace the history of railroads in Temple (the city was founded by a railroad), and of railroads in general. Displays include on-site steam locomotive and cabooses, plus an interactive train dispatch room inside the museum.
From the second floor viewing area, visitors can observe the BNSF Railroad's main line traffic.
The Railroad and Heritage Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday noon-4 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday. There is a modest admission charge.
