About the Sam Houston Statue and Visitors Center:
Sam Houston, "The Father of Texas," stands tall in Huntsville. Very tall. This 67-foot-high statue of Houston watches over the Huntsville Visitors Center on Highway 75.

Houston lived in Huntsville, and the city celebrates him in style. The Sam Houston Statue is the tallest statue in the world of an American hero. It was built by artist David Adickes and stands atop a 10-foot base.

Inside the Hunstville Visitors Center, visitors to this city will find videos, brochures, maps, plus a gift shop. A volunteer is always on hand to help visitors find what they are looking for.

The Visitors Center is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; weekends from April through August hours are extended to 6 p.m. But the Sam Houston Statue is always there, watching over the city. Stop and get your photo taken in front of ol' Sam.
