About the Silent Wings Museum:
A little-known American program during World War II was the U.S. Combat Glider Program. Most of the glider pilots in that program trained at South Plains Army Airfield. The Army airfield was long ago converted into today's Lubbock International Airport, but some of the artifacts from the glider program are still in the area.

The Silent Wings Museum, dedicated to the history of the U.S. Combat Glider Program, its planes and its pilots, is located on the west side of Lubbock International Airport, along I-27.

The museum houses a fully restored glider from the WWII program, one of the few in existence. It also houses three exhibit galleries - the Timeline, Hangar and Combat Galleries - plus a multi-media theater, a research library and gift shop. Photos, artifacts, airborne equipment and a short film tell the story of the program and its pilots.

The Silent Wings Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 1-5 p.m. It is closed Mondays, plus Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years days. There is a modest admission fee.
