About the Waco Suspension Bridge and River Walk:
The Waco Suspension Bridge is a historic bridge over the Brazos River. The River Walk is a pathway through several parks that line the Brazos River.

When the Waco Suspension Bridge was built in 1870, it was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi. The company of J.A. Roebeling, designer and builder of the Brooklyn Bridge, supplied the cables for the Waco Suspension Bridge.

The bridge is no longer open to vehicular traffic, but is used heavily by walkers, runners, strollers and sightseers, and provides a great view of the Brazos River. It can also be rented for parties and special events. The bridge is flanked by two city parks, Indian Spring Park and Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

The River Walk is a loop of landscaped paths along the banks of the Brazos that begins at Ft. Fisher Park, goes past the Waco Suspension Bridge and continues to the Herring Avenue bridge.
